Position Summary
Material Methods, a leader in the R&D and manufacturing of separation and energy devices built on nano-structured materials, has an immediate opportunity for a full-time scientist or engineer to provide leadership in a team that develops and commercializes nano-technology for water purification and energy storage.
We are looking for an enthusiastic person with an entrepreneurial spirit and a broad background in the physical sciences. This person should have an intense interest in nano-technology and its application to real-world issues. We want someone who likes to build and make things work; someone who foresees active transport and Brownian motors.
This scientist enjoys working in a small team setting, working in the lab, analyzing data, developing new products, and making decisions concerning research directions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Contribute to Research Activities
- Perform experiments and analysis in execution of research programs
- Author patents and technical publications with R&D team
Oversee Research Directions
- Participate in new product conception, market feasibility analysis, and demonstration of technical feasibility
- Conceive, propose, and manage new research programs as co-principle investigator
- Architect, with President and R&D team, the company technology roadmap
- Work with President to create R&D resource and financial budgets for new projects and annual corporate planning
Manage Research Projects
- Coordinate and track activities of four scientists in accordance with research project plans
- Identify and manage outside technical consultants and resources on research projects
Desired Knowledge
- Strong background in the physical sciences and experimental science
- Ability to control chemical potentials at the nano scale
- Familiarity or eagerness to work in polymer science, electrochemistry, transport, surface modification, colloid/surface science, catalysis, thermodynamics, statistical mechanics, materials science, separation science, and semi-conductor physics
Desired Skills
- Strong leadership within a research team
- Ability to execute on research plans and bring a product to market
- Materials characterization, laboratory electronics, Mathematica, Digisim, MS Office, Labview, C++, Matlab
- Wet chemistry, gas phase chemistry and vacuum science, or bio-technology
- Mathematical modeling
- Design of experiments
- Excellent communication and writing skills
Education and Experience
- PhD in Chemistry, Physics or Engineering
- At least three years experience in self-directed research (at least as a post-doc)
- New product development experience is a plus
